CDM2008: Design Research

Design research turns questions about people, contexts, and experiences into evidence that can guide responsible design decisions. This course introduces a systematic process for framing research, selecting qualitative methods, conducting fieldwork, synthesizing findings, and communicating actionable insights.

Opening Questions

What has previous work already explained, and what has it left unresolved?
How do we distinguish a meaningful research gap from a merely missing example?
What contribution would make our research question worth pursuing?

Synthesize related work to identify what remains unresolved, verify the value of the research question, and articulate a defensible research gap and expected contribution.
